Dry stone walls
Date TBA
Ever wondered who built the beautiful dry stone wall on Range Road and other locations around the Southern Highlands? Chances are it was Simon Badway.
And now you can learn the ancient and beautiful craft of dry stone walling from the master himself.
We are finalising dates for the next workshop – so register your interest and I’ll let you know asap
Date: TBA
Time: 9am – 4pm Saturday;
10am – 3pm SundayIncl: Lunch, refreshments, gloves, materials and gravity included
Where: Ashton Park: 6077 Illawarra Highway, Moss Vale
Cost: TBA
Learn from this master-artisan as he shares his love of this beautiful ancient art-form. Simon will guide you in the skills you need to tackle your own project with confidence.
Under his expert eye you’ll have the satisfaction of finishing your own stretch of dry stone wall here at Ashton Park.
And if you already have some experience, the Intermediate Workshop on Sunday is the chance to really hone your skills on a single sided retaining wall, or a simple arch.
What you can expect:
Be welcomed to Ashton Park with scones, tea and coffee, while Simon takes us through the plan for the day.
Have an overview of the theory and technique, before donning the gloves and heading through the orchard and kitchen garden to the paddock.
Under Simon’s instruction, work in pairs on your own stretch of the wall. Simon will show us how to make solid foundations and keep to a nice straight line as we add height to the wall.
After a delicious lunch in the Barn, head back to the wall to consolidate the morning’s lessons and place some finishing touches on your segment.
Finish the day with a reviving drink and go home inspired and confident to tackle some of the ideas you have for your own home.
NB: We observe COVID-safe requirements at Ashton Park. We will monitor and respond as requirements evolve.

WET WEATHER
It’s not much fun in wet weather! Therefore, we will decide the day before if the weather looks dodgy, and you can reschedule or be refunded if it’s too wet.
I had a ball. And I’ve managed to avoid months – maybe even years – of trial and error to build my own dry stone wall.
Thanks Peta!
Thanks for the great dry stone wall workshop at Ashton Park yesterday. The whole day was brilliant including the gourmet food served by Peta and the skills and expertise of Simon and the team.
I will highly recommend the classes to anyone interested.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sunday. It was educational, informative, eye opening, and downright fun. And I must add that the food was incredible. Our compliments to the Chef. Simon and the boys made it even more enjoyable with the passion and knowledge that they shared ….. we are looking forward to the next episode
Many thanks to you, Simon and his crew as well as all the lovely participants for a fabulous weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed learning this skill on your beautiful property. Also, thank you for the delicious food, how I wish I had some rhubarb quince crumble right now!
